Kickstarter, The Prizery’s Summer Theatre fundraiser, has raised $22,805 as of Tuesday morning with only $2,195 left to meet the Feb. 11 goal of $25,000. Prizery Artistic Director Chris Jones said he thought it was going to be a hard task to raise the $25,000 needed to “kickstart” The Prizery’s Summer Theatre productions for another year, but Tuesday he said he believes they may meet the goal by the end of the day. “Setting and meeting the $25,000 is a good way to start. However the entire budget for our Summer Theatre is $100,000 for three shows bringing in professional cast members from all over the country,” he added. Jones urged county residents to continue giving on the online Kickstarter fundraising website, saying they will certainly need more than $25,000 to put on the coming summer theatrical productions. In an email sent out Tuesday morning Destination Downtown South Boston President Wayne Fuller urged area residents to go to www.kickstarter.com and review the names of the 93 funding backers of The Prizery’s Save Summer Theatre Celebration 2012. “As of today the pledged amount is 91 percent funded with $22,805 of the $25,000 needed,” Fuller said. “This project will only be funded if at least $25,000 is pledged by Saturday, Feb. 11. With 18 days to go a lot of local people have donated. Please, search your souls and help this cause by donating whatever you can. This is an event in the dead of the summer that helps businesses downtown with feet on the street, shopping and eating. If it does not take place, the dollars spent will be zero during the slow summer months. Hope you will pledge as soon as possible,” Fuller said.
