Tragedy was avoided Tuesday morning when a 1995 Kenworth logging truck owned by Kevin M. Pearce of Zebulon, N.C., and driven by William Crudup, 51, Bunn, N.C., was traveling eastbound, lost its brakes and struck the rear of a 2008 International bucket truck owned by VDOT on the temporary bridge over the Banister River in the Town of Halifax, according to Trooper T.C. Comer.
