Annie “Estelle” Irby Baynes, 92, of 1105 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died July 22, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born May 24, 1918 in Halifax County the daughter of the late Edward French Irby and Fannie Newby Irby. She was married to the late Wallace Melvin Baynes.
Mrs. Baynes was retired from Halifax Cotton Mill where she was a sewer.
Survivors include her nieces, Jean Eades of Greensboro, N.C., Dorothy Thomas Hinshaw and husband K.D. of Raleigh, N.C., Juanita Maston and husband Wayne of Hampton, Cindy Maston and husband Gene of Yorktown, Paula Bryant and husband Don of South Boston, Pam Dawson and husband Butch of Alton, Dale Glasscock and husband Jimmy of South Boston, Karen Jackson and husband Dean of Alton and Marsha Holt of Virgilina; her nephews, Jimmy Thomas and Jeanette, Eddie Thomas and wife Karen, Randy Thomas and Billy Thomas, all of Hampton, Barry Thomas of Grafton, Byron Irby and wife Joyce, of South Boston and Duane Irby and wife Susan of Scottsburg; and two sisters-in-law, Katheryn Irby and Mary Emma Irby.
Three brothers, Robert, William and Edward Irby; three sisters, Mattie Bowes, Hallie Thomas and Billie Jane Irby; and one nephew, Bobby Irby also preceded Mrs. Baynes in death.
Graveside services were held Sunday, July 25, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. The family received friends following the service.
