Linder McCargo Martin of 114 Robin Hood Road, South Boston died July 28, 2010 at her residence at the age of 55.
Mrs. Martin was born in Halifax County on August 8, 1954, and was the daughter of Mr. Moses McCargo Sr. and the late Mrs. Florence Herbert McCargo. She was married to Mr. Cedric Lewis Martin and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Martin was a retired educator with the Halifax County Public School System with 30 years of service. She taught English at Halifax County High School and later served as student activities director and assistant principal.
In addition to her husband and father of South Boston, her survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Akia Harper of Blythewood, S.C., and Ms. Kimberly Martin of Richmond; two sisters:Â Mrs. Wanda Vaughn of Clover and Mrs. Gloria Powell of Stafford; two brothers: Mr. Raleigh Herbert of New York and Mr. Moses McCargo Jr. of Scottsburg; four grandchildren; three aunts: Mrs. Ella Crews, Mrs. Joanna Herbert and Mrs. Thalia McCargo; a uncle: Mr. Louis Herbert; a son-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street, with the Rev. Frank Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 114 Robin Hood Road.
Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main St., South Boston.
