Comets Escape With Win Over FC, Face PH Saturday

The Halifax County High School varsity baseball team, after having escaped with a close 14-12 road win over Franklin County Tuesday night, now turns its attention to yet another key Western Valley District game this weekend.

Eagles Clip Lady Comets For Tie Atop District

Sometimes its not how many hits you get but when you get them, and that proved true in Tuesday’s showdown at Comets Softball Field between Franklin County and Halifax County, the Eagles plating two runs on three hits in both the second and sixth innings to clip the Comets varsity softball team 4-2.

Melissa Smith broke through the Franklin County High School with between three and four minutes left, looking for a solid shot at the Franklin County goal.

Sat. - NASCAR racing action returns to South Boston Speedway Saturday night with the USG Presents Little Caesar’s Night racing program. Twin 75-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division will be the featured event. There will also be races for the Limited Sportsman Division, Pure Stock Division and the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.
In honor of all mothers, South Boston Speedway will have a special $5 admission for all moms.
Registration and pit gates open at 1 p.m. Practice goes from 2:15-3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 5 p.m. Qualifying time trials start at 5:15 p.m. and the first race starts at 7 p.m.

Sat. & Sun. – Sports car racing returns to Virginia International Raceway as the North Carolina Region of the Sports Car Club of America hosts the Al Fairer Double SARRC Challenge.
There will be racing in seven different race groups with 12-lap or 30-minute SARRC points races set for each of the seven race groups on both days.
Action begins Saturday at 8:15 a.m. with 15-minute qualifying sessions for each of the seven race groups. The 12-lap or 30-minute points races follow. On Sunday, on-track action starts at 8:05 a.m. with qualifying sessions followed by a 12-lap or 30-minute race for each of the seven different race groups. The track will observe lunch/quiet hour between 11 a.m. and noon.
